EPISODE 10 SHOW NOTES

Radical responsibility is something that goes far beyond pregnancy and birth, and it actually frees you up in all aspects of your life.

I spoke about this briefly on last week’s episode regarding how you can have an embodied birth experience, but I want to dive into it more. This is a way of living that can allow you to be in your body, and find sovereignty and autonomy in your pregnancy and birth experience.

In today’s episode, I’m talking more about:

  • Why our society does not normally choose to be self-responsible and tends to put people into superior and inferior ‘tiers’. We tend to put ourselves into an 'inferior' type role, and it makes us vulnerable under people of power. We are constantly seeking external permission from others. We're constantly placing our authority in the hands of the individuals around us, whether this be providers, partners, mothers, family, friends, or even midwives and doulas. We collectively are placing authority over ourselves into the hands of individuals around us. We're just so distrusting of our bodies during this time.
  • What radical responsibility actually is. We can not be fully, radically responsible without being embodied (like I spoke about on last week's episode). If you do not live in your body and you have not developed that relationship with yourself and with your being, you will not be able to take authority over your body. You won't be able to take responsibility over your thoughts, your beliefs, and your choices. You won't be able to obtain autonomy over your body, over your baby, and over your life.
  • How radical responsibility looks during pregnancy and your birth experience. This means getting educated on the space you're wanting to give birth in and getting educated on physiologic birth (what this means and can look like for you). It's getting educated on the interventions and procedures that may be utilized and even knowing what you want and do not want. It can even mean knowing what can lead up to these interventions. You should be able to stand in autonomy when making the decisions that are best for you and your baby when the time comes.

Radical responsibility in pregnancy, birth, and beyond.

There really is so much power in owning your shit, and taking responsibility for it. Nobody else will EVER know your body the way you do, no matter their place of authority, how many years of school they’ve gone to, etc. You don’t always need to go seeking answers externally from your provider if you’re unsure of what to do.

I really want to encourage you to take a moment and pause, come inward, and ask yourself and/or your baby what you need to do. I promise-you CAN be confident, powerful, and connected during your pregnancy and birth, and I’m here to help you with all of that!
