EPISODE 8 SHOW NOTES

I’m excited to share a special episode with you today, which is the birth of my youngest son, William! We just celebrated William’s 3rd birthday earlier this month; he really has been an incredible gift to our family, and he has taught me so much during these first 3 years of his life. I feel like my pregnancy and unique birth experience with him planted the seeds for my childbirth education course, Instinctive Birth and Beyond, and just changed so much for me, and what I’m doing in this space now.

In today’s episode, I’m sharing more about my spiritually connected birth story, and what that looked like during pregnancy and delivery.

  • How my 3rd pregnancy came about. I actually had my IUD taken out, because I was ready to give my body a break from birth control, naturally track my cycle, and actually get to know my body without birth control! I ended up getting pregnant soon after, but I didn't even think I was pregnant because I didn't 'feel' pregnant (like I did with my first 2 pregnancies). My husband and I always planned on having a 3rd baby, but we just thought we would have things a little more settled and planned out with our careers. It really was divine timing when Will came into the world though (especially with the world events that took place soon after).
  • What my pregnancy was like this time around (especially compared to my previous ones). I really focused on being not only physically connected to my baby this time around, but spiritually, mentally, and emotionally as well. I even developed a particular, daily ritual that helped me cleanse my energy space, ground myself, and really connect with my baby (I would check in with him and see how he was doing, even though I didn't know he was a boy-we didn't want to find out the gender).
  • My labor and delivery experience. I felt very prepared during this pregnancy, and I had gotten a lot done to help me once my baby was here too (I even prepared 28 meals for my family and I to enjoy after I gave birth!) My son was definitely enjoying himself though, and had no desire to leave the space he was in (I didn't feel him down in my pelvis for the longest time). I was scheduled for an induction, because my provider did not want me going past 42 weeks. We went to the hospital early in the morning for my scheduled induction, and I had been having contractions by this point, but they had grown farther apart. William was still high and not engaged in my pelvis at all (I was only 1 cm dilated at this point). I ended up getting in the tub filled with water in my hospital room, and that led to my water breaking, and ultimately, having Will soon after.

Being spiritually connected to my baby during my pregnancy, as well as during labor, delivery, and postpartum.

One of my goals was to be fully present and fully experience everything I could during this pregnancy. I truly felt SO spiritually connected to my baby during this time, and I believe implementing a daily ritual that worked well for me had a powerful, lasting impact.

Even during labor (when I was finally close to birthing Will), I felt like I had this out-of-body experience. It was as if we were talking, and I told him it was his time to come into the world. Soon after that, my doctor came in, and I pushed Will out! He was the biggest, and most beautiful baby, and it was a life-changing experience I'll never forget.

In my postpartum period, the first 4-6 weeks were truly amazing, and I felt so cared for. I loved when my two older sons were able to meet their baby brother! I felt vital, and nourished, and I was letting myself rest in this time. I could have never prepared what was coming in the next month or so though (that's when the global pandemic happened), and I will share more about my postpartum experience with that in a future episode.

It’s important that we shift our beliefs and get back to honoring birth and life, because it really is a beautiful event. Our bodies are pretty magnificent, and they know how to grow, birth, and nourish our babies. You absolutely can have a magical spiritual connection with your baby. I hope some part of my story inspires you to find that trust within yourself, and build a deep connection with your baby!
