7 steps to releasing your fear in childbirth

When you think of giving birth, I bet that fear is one of the emotions that comes to mind. Even though it’s very common for women to have fear regarding childbirth, that doesn’t mean you should let it completely take the reins of your birth, or even your life!

In today’s episode, I’m talking about 7 steps to releasing your fear in childbirth.

Whether you've given birth multiple times before or you'll be giving birth for the first time, your fear surrounding birth is normal. It's also very instinctual, and it can serve a great purpose-for a time.

  1. Recognize that you actually have a fear. This may sound like a no-brainer, but sometimes we don't even know we are scared of something until we take the time to recognize it.
  2. Write/journal your fears. This really is SO powerful, because you need to get your fears out of your head and onto paper!
  3. Begin to really sit with and understand the source of your fears. Where did your fears actually come from? Your fears may come from a personal experience, or they may be from stories you've heard from others, media conditioning, or even the way YOU were born (like when your mother gave birth to you).
  4. Take actionable steps to release your fears. This can be fear release and may look like meditation, body work, etc. Educating yourself is power, and you can tune into podcasts (like powerful stories shared on this podcast), blogs, Facebook groups, and more.
  5. Implement a plan and/or daily practice to release and work on your fears. This should be something that will actually work for you and you can stick with!
  6. Share your fears with your birth team. Whether it's your spouse, friend, provider, midwife, or anyone else, communication with them is KEY. When they know what your fears are, they can stay a step or two ahead of you when it comes time for you to give birth. This really provides an extra layer of protective energy for you.
  7. Give your fears to a higher power. This may be God, the universe, etc. There's a point where you just have to give in and give your fears to something much greater than you. Similar to sharing with your birth team, this provides you protective energy and also takes the load off of you more.

Ultimately, I want you to be freed from the fears surrounding pregnancy and childbirth, because they can rob you of the truly beautiful and miraculous parts that you should be focusing on.

Again, fear about childbirth is completely NORMAL, and it’s really just a protective mechanism that we all have. However, fear isn’t something that should sabotage your birth experience either. I hope this episode brings you some tools that will help overcome fear surrounding childbirth, and lean more trustingly and knowingly into your birth experience!
